Fight Erupts on Monroe Avenue; Suspects Released Under NY Ticket Law
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A fight broke out on Monroe Avenue last night, quickly drawing in several onlookers who joined the altercation.
Rochester Police officers rushed to the scene to stop the violence, but they faced resistance as members of the crowd actively interfered with their efforts to restore order.
Despite the disruption, none of the individuals involved were held in jail. Under New York State’s current bail laws, offenses like misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct require police to issue Desk Appearance Tickets.
Instead of being booked into custody, the suspects were processed, handed tickets with a future court date, and immediately released.
