RCSD Vote: $1.15B Budget Faces Outcry Over Support Cuts
ROCHESTER, NY — The Rochester City School District Board is set to vote tonight on a $1.15 billion budget for the 2026-27 school year, despite fierce pushback from the community.
Critics warn the plan’s “rightsizing” measures will gut essential student support. While a recent $4.9 million grant saved some roles, the proposal still eliminates dozens of guidance counselor and social worker positions. Educators and parents argue these cuts will leave students without the mental health resources and personal guidance they need to navigate a post-pandemic landscape.
The budget also slashes home-based medical instruction by 95%. If approved tonight, the plan moves to the City Council for a final vote on June 16.
